NMSU 2024

Day 1: Upon arrival into Costa Rica and exiting the airport, the NMSU Aggies met the STV Group Assisant, Xeomy. We grabbed some food and headed to a local hotel to enjoy the rest of our afternoon by the pool and planned for a great night of sleep and rest to get our energy ready for the next day.

Day 2: On our second day in Costa Rica, we started early with a satisfying breakfast before exploring the farmers market in Alajuela to sample exotic fruits. We then visited the active Poas Volcano and enjoyed the natural beauty of La Paz Waterfall Gardens, encountering diverse wildlife and stunning waterfalls.

Day 3: Our third day in Costa Rica began with a leisurely morning, allowing us some much-needed rest before our journey to Monteverde. After enjoying a delightful lunch in Monteverde, we made our way to CPI, our school, where we received a warm welcome and informative orientation for the days ahead. The highlight of the day was meeting our host families, and we spent the rest of the afternoon getting acquainted with them.

Day 4: Our first day in Monteverde was filled with learning! After a morning of Spanish classes, our Aggies participated in a Costa Rican cooking class where we learned how to make arroz con pollo, ensalada rusa, and frijoles molidos. Following the cooking class, we learned how to dance salsa, swing criollo, bachata, and merengue. Afterwards, we separated into groups and walked downtown for a local scavenger hunt that taught us about Costa Rican history and culture.

Day 5:  On our fifth day we had engaging spanish classes in the morning at CPI and then in the afternoon we walked in the Santa Elena Cloud Forest reserve, where we lived the full cloud forest experience and got delightfully wet because of the rain.

Day 6After attending our Spanish class in the morning, we headed to Los Tornos elementary school. There, we spent time scraping off the old paint from the walls before applying a fresh coat. We concluded our collaboration service by playing soccer with some of the local students.

Day 7: Our seventh day was very calm, beginning with a morning Spanish class and followed by a rainy afternoon. As a group, we opted to explore local shops and tour Monteverde by bus during our free time.

Day 8: After breakfast with our host families and our morning Spanish classes, we had lunch and prepared to visit Flamingo Beach. We arrived just in time to witness the breathtaking sunset over the ocean and concluded our day with a lively karaoke night at the hotel.

Day 9: We started our day with excitement, visiting Conchal Beach to relax in its crystal-clear waters. After lunch, we geared up for a thrilling boat ride and snorkeling adventure.

Day 10Part of our group opted for extra sleep, while the rest savored the last morning at the beach, exploring local shops before departing Flamingo for Monteverde to reunite with our host families.

Day 11After an exhilarating weekend, we kicked off our week with an adrenaline rush by doing ziplining! Following our thrilling morning adventure, we made our way to school for some enjoyable classes.

Day 12: On our twelfth day, we had a much-needed morning off before gathering at school for our Spanish lessons in the afternoon.

Day 13: We began our day at Life Monteverde, a coffee farm, immersing ourselves in the world of coffee cultivation and learning about the intricacies of the plantation process. Putting our newfound knowledge to use, we crafted fertilizers for the coffee plants. In the afternoon, we engaged in Spanish classes to further enrich our cultural experience.

Day 14: Our second day at Life Monteverde was just as fulfilling as the first. We assisted in preparing the soil for planting corn, and to our surprise, discovered an abundance of potatoes along the way! Following a delightful lunch on the farm, we made our way to school for our scheduled classes.

Day 15: Our final day in Monteverde began with a heartfelt breakfast with our host families, followed by the collection of our luggage for our departure. We then convened at school for our last Spanish lesson. After class, we celebrated with a small graduation ceremony and watched a video capturing our journey together. Later, we departed for Alajuela, where we took some time to rest before our flight from the airport.

Day 16: Our journey concluded in the early hours as we made our way to the airport, where we bid farewell to the group and said our last goodbyes.
