Monticello High School 2025

Day 1: March 21st, 2025

Arrival day! The sun and blue sky gave us a warm welcome to the beautiful country Costa Rica. After a delicious lunch we headed downtown to Liberia, Guanacaste to get to know the town by walking around its streets being able to learn about Costa Rica’s culture and historical places such as the former Liberia barracks. ¡Muy interesante!

Day 2: March 22nd, 2025 

We woke up with lots of energy and prepared for a full day of adventures. We started with river tubing, floating down a river with the adrenaline running high and continued with canopy and horseback riding enjoying the breathtaking landscapes and views. ¡Fue muy divertido! The best of all was ending the day relaxing on the musbaths and thermal waters of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. We also met our Costa Rican families in Flamingo; they were all so sweet and welcoming! 

Day 3: March 23rd, 2025 

First day in Flamingo, check! Starting the day with a Costa Rican breakfast fills you with energy, gallo pinto is a must!  We spent or morning at the beach, enjoying the sand and waves the Pacific Coast has to offer. Definitely something we won't forget, later we sailed on a cruise to explore deeper waters by snorkeling, kayaking and swimming. ¡Habían muchos peces y vimos delfines! The sunset marveled us with its different shades of orange and yellow, letting us know that the day was ending but our adventures in Costa Rica continue. 

 

Day 4: March 24th, 2025 

The group was ready to meet their spanish teachers, those who are going to guide them during their new spanish learning journey. A morning of learning and activities to increase their knowledge with interactive lessons, cultural insights, and lively conversations. So much to learn!  We finished or day at the beach sunbathing and swimming. Fue una bella tarde. 

Day 5: March 25th, 2025 

Another morning full of learning spanish, vocabulary and grammar! That afternoon we sank into action as we volunteered in the local community called Lorena, putting our new language skills to practical use while making a difference. Everyone in the community were so nice! The group was very happy to collaborate in anything they could. ¡Nos esforzamos mucho!

Day 6: March 26th, 2025 

The morning was dedicated to Spanish lessons, learning some commonly used Costa Rican words. Did you know “chiva” means “amazing”? Following a delicious lunch, the group traveled to Playa Conchal in Costa Rica. There, they relaxed on the stunning white-sand beach, swam in the crystal-clear waters, and practiced their Spanish with locals, fully embracing the 'pura vida' lifestyle.
